FLAGSTAFF, AZ – May 30, 2025 – Some much-needed relief is in sight for Northern Arizona's drying forests, as moisture from Tropical Storm Alvin is forecast to bring widespread rainfall to the region late Sunday through Monday.

Currently located south of the Baja California peninsula, the remnants of Tropical Storm Alvin are expected to track north, funneling significant moisture into Arizona. According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, this will translate into widespread moderate rainfall across Northern Arizona from late Sunday, June 1st, into Monday, June 2nd. A few thunderstorms may also accompany the rain.

Forecasters anticipate rainfall totals to generally range from 0.3 to 0.7 inches across the area. However, locally higher amounts are possible, particularly in areas experiencing stronger storms.

This incoming precipitation is being hailed as good news, offering a beneficial drink to the parched landscapes and potentially helping to alleviate dry conditions in the region's forests. While one rain event won't end drought concerns, it's a positive development as the state heads into the hotter summer months.

Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service as the system approaches.
