K-9 Deputy-Involved Crash in South Brooksville Sends One to Hospital

South Brooksville, FL – A high-speed chase led to a deputy-involved crash near the intersection of S. Main Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in South Brooksville on Monday evening, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident unfolded around 8:30 PM when a deputy on proactive patrol observed a driver heading southbound on South Main Street commit a traffic infraction. As the deputy—traveling northbound—attempted to turn around and initiate a traffic stop, the suspect fled at a high rate of speed.

While fleeing, the suspect ran a stop sign at the intersection of S. Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and collided with the rear side panel of a K-9 deputy’s patrol vehicle that was driving along MLK Blvd.

The impact caused both vehicles to spin out, and the K-9 deputy’s vehicle eventually slammed into a power pole, bringing it to a stop.

Injuries and Arrest:

• The deputy sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover.
• The K-9 inside the patrol unit was unharmed.
• The suspect was not injured and was taken into custody after a short foot chase.

Area Impact:

• The crash caused significant damage to a power pole, resulting in power outages in the area.
• The intersection remains closed to traffic as crews work to restore power and clear the scene.
