BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — A 51-year-old Brooksville woman died after being struck by an SUV while standing in the roadway Sunday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to Sgt. Steve Gaskins, Public Affairs Officer with the Florida Highway Patrol, a Mitsubishi Outlander driven by a 63-year-old Brooksville man was traveling westbound on US-98 shortly after 9 p.m.
West of Goodway Drive, the SUV collided with a 51-year-old Brooksville woman who was standing in the roadway.
FHP said investigators have not determined why the woman was in the roadway at the time of the collision.
Emergency crews transported the pedestrian to an area hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
No additional information about the identities of those involved was immediately released.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
