MESA, AZ — Mesa Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that ended with the suspected driver crashing into a traffic signal pole near Val Vista Drive and University Drive Saturday evening.
At approximately 6:45 p.m., Mesa Police and Mesa Fire responded to the area of Val Vista Drive and University Drive following reports of a hit-and-run collision with possible injuries.
During the investigation, officers determined the original crash occurred at Lindsay Road and University Drive.
According to Mesa Police, the suspect vehicle left the scene of the initial collision and continued eastbound on University Drive before later striking a pole at Val Vista Drive and University Drive.
One person was transported by ambulance with injuries initially reported as serious. Mesa Police later said the driver of the suspected hit-and-run vehicle was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The occupant of the other vehicle did not sustain serious injuries and was not transported.
A DUI investigation is also underway in connection with the incident.
The crash damaged the traffic signal system at Val Vista and University, leaving the traffic lights out at the intersection.
Despite the damaged signals, police said traffic is currently moving well and there are no road closures in place at this time.
Drivers traveling through the area should use caution while the traffic signals remain out and watch for any temporary traffic control measures.
The investigation remains ongoing.
