Kissimmee: Deputy-Involved Shooting Under Investigation Following Mental Health Crisis Call

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A deputy-involved shooting remains under investigation after an Osceola County Sheriff's deputy responded to a reported mental health crisis early Wednesday morning in Kissimmee.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched shortly after 2:00 a.m. on July 8, 2026, to 4704 Marcos Circle after receiving a 911 call regarding a family member who was experiencing a mental health crisis and was possibly armed with a weapon.

When a deputy arrived at the residence, a physical altercation occurred between the deputy and the suspect. During the struggle, the deputy fired their weapon, striking the suspect.

The suspect, identified by investigators as Nicholas Ivorald Doyley, 51, was airlifted by Air Care to a nearby hospital. Authorities said he was conscious and alert during transport, and his injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.

Officials said Doyley remains hospitalized while recovering from his injuries and is currently in custody.

The deputy sustained minor injuries during the altercation but did not require hospitalization and is reported to be doing well. As is standard procedure following a deputy-involved shooting, the deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement continues to investigate the shooting, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings in Florida.

Following the incident, Osceola County Sheriff's Office detectives charged Doyley with:

• Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer
• Resisting an Officer with Violence

During a media briefing, the Sheriff's Office also addressed questions regarding Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training for deputies. Officials said Florida's approved CIT program consists of 40 hours of specialized training designed to help first responders safely manage incidents involving individuals experiencing suspected mental health crises.

According to the Sheriff's Office, 240 members of the Osceola County Sheriff's Office have successfully completed the state-approved CIT training program.

Investigators said they are continuing to process evidence and work on additional materials requested by the media. Authorities added that more information will be released as the investigation progresses and details can be confirmed.
