NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — A 29-year-old New Port Richey woman was hospitalized Sunday morning after losing control of her SUV and crashing into a utility pole along U.S. 19, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:25 a.m. on July 12, 2026, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 and Sunray Drive.
According to FHP, the woman was driving a Mazda CX-30 northbound on U.S. 19 when, for reasons that remain under investigation, she lost control while traveling through the intersection.
Troopers said the SUV traveled onto the northeast shoulder, where it struck a roadside ditch before colliding with a concrete sidewalk. The vehicle then slammed into the guide wires supporting a utility pole, leaving the SUV nearly upright against the pole.
The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
Photos from the scene show the heavily damaged Mazda wedged against the utility pole, with the supporting guide wires and utility equipment torn from the ground. Emergency crews and law enforcement responded to secure the area while the crash was investigated.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
Information in this report was provided by Sergeant Steve Gaskins of the Florida Highway Patrol.
