GILBERT, Ariz. - Gilbert Fire & Rescue crews responded to a significant vehicle fire Friday morning after a vehicle became heavily engulfed in flames near 1149 N. Seton Ave. in Gilbert.
The fire was reported at approximately 9:30 a.m., with arriving firefighters finding the vehicle fully involved in flames. Crews immediately began working to contain the fire while protecting nearby exposures, preventing the blaze from spreading to surrounding structures, vegetation, or other vehicles.
Due to the intensity of the fire and the potential presence of hazardous materials commonly found in vehicles—including gasoline, motor oil, lithium-ion batteries, coolant, and other chemicals—a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) team was assigned to the scene. HazMat specialists evaluated the area for any dangerous substances released during the fire and helped ensure conditions were safe for firefighters, nearby residents, and the public.
Vehicle fires can burn at temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit and produce dense, toxic smoke. In some cases, pressurized components, fuel systems, or battery packs can create additional hazards, making specialized HazMat support an important precaution during these incidents.
No immediate information has been released regarding injuries, the cause of the fire, or whether nearby road closures or evacuations were necessary.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and additional details are expected to be released as they become available.
