POINCIANA, Fla. (iSkyNews.com) — A pedestrian riding a skateboard was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle Friday night in Poinciana, prompting a large emergency response and the temporary closure of KOA Street.

According to Osceola County Fire Rescue, the crash occurred at the intersection of KOA Street and San Lorenzo Road. Emergency crews arrived to find the pedestrian injured in the roadway after being hit by a passing vehicle.

Firefighters and paramedics worked to stabilize the victim in the middle of the road while deputies with the Osceola County Sheriff's Office secured the scene. Due to the severity of the incident, all eastbound and westbound lanes of KOA Street were temporarily shut down as emergency personnel rendered aid.

Once stabilized, the patient was loaded into an ambulance and transported under emergency conditions to Osceola Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The impact caused significant damage at the scene. The skateboard involved in the crash was broken in half, and the vehicle sustained a large impact crack to the passenger side of the windshield, indicating the force of the collision.

Deputies remained on scene with the involved vehicle until troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol arrived to assume the crash investigation.
