The fire was reported at approximately 6:21 p.m., drawing firefighters from the Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Phoenix, and Scottsdale fire departments.

When crews arrived, they encountered heavy flames and thick smoke coming from one of the residences. Fire conditions quickly intensified and spread to a neighboring home, threatening both structures and prompting incident commanders to upgrade the response to a second alarm.

Due to the severity of the fire and deteriorating interior conditions, firefighters transitioned to a defensive firefighting strategy. Crews attacked the blaze from the exterior while working to prevent the fire from spreading further to nearby properties.

Officials said all residents from both homes were able to evacuate safely and were accounted for. However, one animal was located deceased inside one of the residences.

No civilian injuries were reported.

Firefighters from multiple Valley agencies worked together for several hours to contain the fire and protect surrounding homes from additional damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and fire officials have not yet released an estimate of the damage caused by the blaze.

Additional information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.

Thank you to all of the firefighters and first responders who worked together to keep the fire from spreading even further and to protect nearby homes. 🚒 🚓 🚑 🗞️
