The sentencing stems from a chaotic incident in 2025 that unfolded across multiple locations, beginning along the I-10 freeway. According to investigators, Gonzalez was seen standing on the side of the roadway waving a gun before firing at a passing vehicle. The driver was not injured and exited the freeway safely to contact police.

Gonzalez then fled on foot, jumping a fence near Tempe Diablo Stadium and making his way to the Marriott Phoenix Resort Tempe at The Buttes, where the situation escalated further.

At the resort, Gonzalez confronted two employees, ordered them to the ground, and fired multiple rounds, injuring both victims with shrapnel. Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and both were able to escape.

The suspect continued through the property and attempted to carjack a woman, who managed to flee with her two children, avoiding further harm.

Responding officers quickly located Gonzalez in the resort parking lot and took him into custody without incident. The resort was temporarily evacuated as a precaution while police secured the area and ensured there were no additional threats.

Nearly a year later, the case has reached a resolution with Gonzalez’s sentencing. Authorities say the incident serves as a reminder of how quickly situations can escalate and the importance of swift law enforcement response.
