POINCIANA, FL – A violent two-vehicle collision involving a rollover sent shockwaves through Sunday afternoon traffic, shutting down a major artery in Poinciana for nearly two hours.
At approximately 2:30 pm, units from the Florida Highway Patrol and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Northbound Poinciana Boulevard and Declaration Drive. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a pickup truck resting on its side and a damaged Range Rover nearby.
The severity of the crash forced an immediate total closure of all Northbound lanes. As the wreckage blocked the primary thoroughfare, traffic quickly backed up for miles, leaving hundreds of motorists stranded in the afternoon heat.
To alleviate the gridlock, law enforcement officers implemented a mandatory detour, funneling the massive queue of vehicles into the Liberty Village community. Drivers were forced to navigate residential streets to perform U-turns and exit back toward alternate routes.
Cleanup crews worked efficiently to right the overturned vehicle and clear debris from the roadway. By 4:00 pm, authorities confirmed that the scene had been cleared and all travel lanes were once again open to the public.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. No information regarding injuries has been released at this time.
