FHP: Two Seriously Injured After High-Speed Crash Involving Winter Haven Police Vehicle

WINTER HAVEN, FL — Two people were seriously injured early Sunday morning after a high-speed crash involving a Winter Haven Police Department patrol vehicle and another car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The collision occurred around 2:19 a.m. on November 2, 2025, at the intersection of 1st Street South and State Road 540 (Cypress Gardens Boulevard).

Investigators say Vehicle 1, a Honda Accord driven by a 21-year-old Winter Haven man, was traveling south on 1st Street South approaching the intersection at a high rate of speed. Meanwhile, Vehicle 2, a Winter Haven Police Department Tahoe, was traveling eastbound on SR-540 with lights and sirens activated, responding to a call.

As the police vehicle entered the intersection, the Honda Accord struck the front left side of the Tahoe, causing both vehicles to spin out of control toward the Dutch Bros Coffee parking lot.

According to troopers, the Honda hit a roadside sign and a raised landscape feature before overturning and coming to rest on its left side near the patrol SUV. The Tahoe also rotated off the roadway, coming to rest facing west.

Both the 21-year-old driver of the Honda and the 23-year-old Winter Haven Police officer sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

FHP says charges are pending against the driver of the Honda.

The crash remains under investigation.
