Scottsdale, AZ — A dramatic overnight recovery operation unfolded along a Scottsdale canal after a suspected DUI driver plunged a vehicle into the water. Scottsdale Police and emergency crews responded swiftly, and thanks to their coordinated efforts, no injuries were reported.
Crews used a heavy-duty tow and ladder truck to safely extract the partially submerged vehicle from the canal. Photos from the scene show firefighters working from an aerial platform while recovery teams lifted the car from the water, still dripping as it was hoisted onto the bank.
Holiday DUI Enforcement Underway
This incident comes just as Scottsdale Police launch their annual holiday DUI enforcement campaign. From November 28 through January 1, the SPD DUI Task Force, working in partnership with multiple Valley agencies, will be out in force to keep impaired drivers off the road.
With holiday gatherings, parties, and celebrations approaching, police are urging the public to make responsible choices.
“Don’t drink and drive,” SPD said in a message to the community. “Plan ahead, use a rideshare, designate a sober driver, and help keep our roads safe.”
Police say DUI crashes spike during the holiday season and emphasize that every impaired-driving incident—whether minor or life-threatening—is preventable with responsible decisions.
