Vehicle Crash in Mesa Knocks Down Light Pole, Two Injured Near McKellips and Loop 202

MESA, AZ (June 14, 2025) — A single-vehicle collision in Mesa caused major traffic disruption Saturday afternoon after a car slammed into a light pole near McKellips Road and Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway).

At approximately 1:05 PM, Mesa Fire & Medical and Mesa Police were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered a maroon-colored vehicle that had collided with a streetlight. The impact was so severe that the light pole was completely obliterated, with debris blocking the eastbound right lane of McKellips Road near the freeway on-ramp.

When emergency crews arrived, one of the patients was found laying on the ground outside the vehicle. Two individuals had been in the car—one sustained serious injuries, while the other suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No extrication was needed, and both patients were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Mesa Police officers remained on scene until City of Mesa crews arrived. In the interim, officers were able to safely remove the damaged pole from the roadway to clear the blocked lane and restore partial traffic flow.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation.
