MESA, Ariz. — The Maricopa County Medical Examiner has released the official cause of death for Carolyn Judith Scheuer, the 55-year-old Mesa woman whose disappearance in late May prompted widespread concern and community alerts.


Scheuer was found deceased on June 9, 2025, weeks after she was last seen leaving her home near Recker and McDowell Roads. Her case drew significant attention across the East Valley, with family and authorities pleading for public assistance in locating her. Sadly, her body was discovered in Mesa, and she was positively identified shortly thereafter A.


According to the Medical Examiner’s report, Carolyn Scheuer died by suicide. The primary cause was listed as acute polydrug toxicity, involving doxylamine and escitalopram. The report was finalized under case number 2025-06446.

MESA, Ariz. — A heartbreaking update has been released by the Mesa Police Department this morning: Carolyn Scheuer, the 55-year-old woman who had been reported missing in late May, has been found deceased.

According to detectives, Scheuer was located in Mesa on June 9, and she was positively identified earlier this week. The tragic confirmation was made public on June 17, 2025, at 10:50 a.m.

Carolyn was last seen on May 25 near Recker Road and McDowell Road in the East Valley. Family members became increasingly concerned after she left her home that morning and never returned. She was reportedly driving a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe with Arizona plates, and her disappearance prompted a widespread search effort.

The Mesa Police Department issued a statement following the identification:

"Our hearts are with Carolyn's family while they process this devastating news."

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office is currently reviewing the case, and her manner of death remains listed as pending.
