LAKELAND, FL — June 15, 2025 — The Polk County Sheriff's Office has arrested 16-year-old Jonathan Granados, a convicted felon from Lakeland, in connection with a planned shooting outside a business on North Frontage Road. Granados now faces multiple felony charges, including Attempted First Degree Murder, after allegedly orchestrating an ambush attack against another teen.

The investigation began on April 2, 2025, when employees at True Roofers discovered spent shell casings outside the building. Surveillance footage revealed a silver Chevrolet Malibu pulling into the lot, followed by a male suspect—later identified as Granados—approaching the vehicle on foot and firing multiple shots at it before fleeing. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Detectives identified the 19-year-old driver of the Malibu, who initially lied about the incident, claiming his car was shot while parked at home. However, after being confronted with surveillance footage, he admitted to being at True Roofers for a planned fight following a social media exchange. He refused to name the shooter.

Through extensive investigation—including search warrants for the car, cell phone data, and Instagram messages—detectives pieced together a digital trail that revealed the confrontation had been arranged between Granados and the victim. The fight was supposed to be unarmed (“no poles”), but Granados arrived with a firearm and allegedly opened fire in an ambush-style attack.

Digital evidence and surveillance video confirmed Granados' identity. In a sworn affidavit, deputies stated that Granados planned the fight, changed locations due to nearby law enforcement, and intentionally fired at the Malibu and the building in an attempt to kill the victim.

Adding to the severity, Granados was on Conditional Release at the time, stemming from a previous carjacking conviction. When deputies arrested him at his home, they found a modified Glock 19 handgun with a fully loaded extended magazine and an illegal "switch" that converted it into a fully automatic weapon.

Granados admitted to ordering and installing the switch himself, telling investigators the weapon made him “feel like Superman.”

“If he’s Superman, then my detectives are his Kryptonite,” said Sheriff Grady Judd. “I’m incredibly proud of their tireless work in solving this case.”
