Elderly Woman Critically Injured After Crashing Into Mesa Business at High Speed

MESA, AZ — At approximately 10:45 a.m., a high-speed crash sent shockwaves through a Mesa strip mall near Recker and Main Street, when a silver Toyota Corolla barreled through a parking lot and slammed into the pillar of a business located at 6040 E. Main Street.

According to witnesses, the vehicle was traveling in the parking lot at a high rate of speed, heading westbound past Goodwill, then Family Dollar, before colliding head-on with the building at full speed.

Moments after the impact, the vehicle's airbags deployed, and smoke began billowing from under the hood. Trapped inside was an elderly female driver, described by one witness as "barely conscious, covered in blood, and likely suffering a broken arm."

Bystanders rushed to the wreckage, shattering a window to pull the woman to safety before the car could catch fire. Mesa Fire & Medical personnel responded swiftly, deploying a hose to contain the smoke, while EMS crews performed life-saving emergency care.

"I was coming out of the UPS Store and the car went flying through the parking lot before it went straight into the pillar" said Nate one of the heroes that rescued her from the vehicle.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, with lights and sirens activated.

Soon after, Mesa Police arrived on scene, stringing up yellow crime scene tape and launching an active accident investigation. Officers from the Crime Scene Unit took extensive photographs of the vehicle and the impact site. As of 12:00 p.m., the vehicle remained at the scene and no tow truck had arrived.

Photos from the scene show police and firefighters gathered near the building, with debris visible under the vehicle and dark fluid leaking onto the pavement. The crash occurred directly under a posted “Customer Loading Zone” sign, reinforcing the shocking location of the impact.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
