Apache Junction Officer in Critical Condition After Officer-Involved Shooting; Suspect Injured, Investigation Underway

Apache Junction, AZ (June 2, 2025) – An Apache Junction Police Department (AJPD) officer is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries following an officer-involved shooting Monday morning. The 37-year-old male suspect was also struck by gunfire and transported to the hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

The incident began at approximately 9:30 a.m. when the AJPD received a call reporting a vehicle with a driver brandishing a firearm near Ironwood Road and Ray Avenue on S Davis Dr & W Radiance Ave.

According to an AJPD statement, an officer made contact with a vehicle matching the description on Ironwood Road north of Radiance Avenue. After contact was made, the subject stepped out of the vehicle with the gun in his hand. Officers followed the 37-year-old male subject southbound on Ironwood Road, where he continued with the firearm in his hand.

Once in the area of Radiance Drive and Davis Drive, AJPD officers attempted to gain compliance from the male by use of verbal commands and less-lethal means. Police stated, "The male shot at police officers, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire."

One officer, a 3-year veteran with AJPD, was struck during the exchange and transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, reportedly to the upper torso/upper body area. The suspect was also struck and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The investigation into this incident is now being handled by the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team (EVCIRT), with the City of Mesa Police Department serving as the lead investigative agency.

iSkyNews.com Investigative Reporter Ciara Perez was on the scene and spoke with an officer from the Queen Creek Police Department, who was providing assistance. The officer confirmed the Command Van was on site and advised that Radiance Road will be closed until further notice as the investigation proceeds.
