Two Drivers Extracted, Hospitalized After Major Accident on Southern Avenue in Mesa

Mesa, AZ – A major two-vehicle accident on Southern Avenue this morning, May 27, 2025, resulted in two drivers being hospitalized, one in critical condition, after they had to be extricated from their vehicles.

The collision occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Southern Avenue, between Sossamon Road and Power Road, near Clearview. According to Mesa Fire & Medical Department, a 911 call reported the two-vehicle crash, indicating airbag deployment and that occupants were trapped.

Upon arrival, emergency crews found one vehicle blocking the westbound lane of Southern Avenue, while the second vehicle was positioned nearly on the sidewalk, facing north. Firefighters worked to extract both drivers from their respective vehicles.

The female driver of a tan vehicle suffered lacerations to her arms and face, along with multiple other serious injuries. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle sustained back and neck injuries and was also transported for treatment in serious condition.

The far right westbound lane of Southern Avenue was closed for a period while Mesa Police conducted their investigation into the incident. Authorities have since confirmed that the accident scene has been cleared up.
