Mesa, AZ – An Embraer Legacy 450 private jet landed safely at Mesa Gateway Airport at 10:32 a.m. today without incident, following a tense period after the pilot declared an in-flight emergency due to significant multiple mechanical failures.
The incident began at approximately 10:02 a.m. when Mesa Fire & Medical received an urgent call from the air traffic control tower at Mesa Gateway Airport, located at 6033 S. Sossaman Rd, Mesa, AZ. The tower reported an "ALT 2 Aircraft Emergency" for an Embraer Legacy 450. An Alert 2 signifies that an aircraft is approaching with known major difficulties, such as the reported multiple significant mechanical failures, and that a difficult or crash landing may be expected. This automatically triggers a heightened emergency response.

The aircraft was inbound to runway 12 Center with two individuals on board and was carrying 5,600 pounds of fuel at the time of the incident.
In accordance with the Alert 2 status, a full emergency response was immediately mobilized. Multiple fire engines, specialized foam vehicles, battalion command units, and vehicles equipped with extrication tools were dispatched to the scene. First responders staged in anticipation of a potentially hazardous landing.
The Embraer Legacy 450 has a capacity for up to nine passengers.
Officials and onlookers expressed relief at the safe conclusion of the emergency. A huge shoutout to the first responders and flight crew for their quick actions and coordinated efforts in preparing for the worst-case scenario, ensuring all necessary precautions were in place.
No injuries were reported. The exact cause of the electrical failures is expected to be investigated.
