Winter Haven Man Arrested After Allegedly Scouting Vehicles at Davenport Dealership, Polk Deputies Say

DAVENPORT, Fla. — A Winter Haven man on probation for burglary was arrested Monday morning after deputies say he was seen wearing a mask and looking into parked vehicles at a Davenport car dealership before attempting to flee.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, to Posner Chrysler Jeep along U.S. Highway 27 after receiving reports of a suspicious person on the property.

Investigators say the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Tyrell Laron Dixon of Winter Haven, was dressed in black clothing and wearing a black face mask while allegedly peering into the windows of parked vehicles.

As deputies arrived, Dixon reportedly tried to leave the area but was quickly stopped.

Deputies said Dixon was still wearing the mask and was carrying a backpack. They also discovered a screwdriver protruding from one of his pockets, which investigators say is commonly associated with burglary-related offenses.

When asked for his identity, deputies said Dixon first identified himself only as "James." He then allegedly glanced at Deputy Davis' name tag and claimed his name was "James Davis."

Deputies said they were not convinced by the explanation and continued questioning him until he eventually identified himself as Tyrell Dixon.

According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies learned Dixon was already on probation for burglary.

Dixon was arrested and transported to the Polk County Sheriff's Processing Center, where he was charged with:

Possession of Burglary Tools (Third-Degree Felony)
Loitering and Prowling (Second-Degree Misdemeanor)
Providing False Identification to Law Enforcement (First-Degree Misdemeanor)
Resisting an Officer Without Violence (First-Degree Misdemeanor)
Violation of Probation

The Sheriff's Office also said Dixon received a mask enhancement for allegedly wearing a mask during the commission of a crime.

According to deputies, Dixon has a prior criminal history that includes burglary, theft, narcotics possession, and driving while license suspended or revoked.
