BOZEMAN, Mont. — Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport stopped a passenger after discovering a knife hidden beneath a child's car seat during routine security screening.
According to the TSA, the knife had been taped underneath the car seat in an apparent attempt to conceal it before going through the airport security checkpoint. Photos released by the agency show the serrated knife, featuring a wooden handle engraved with the word "Yellowstone," secured with blue painter's tape beneath the seat.
The TSA shared the discovery on social media with a reminder that knives should never be brought through security in carry-on items.
"Knives belong in checked bags, not taped to a child's seat being carried onto a plane," the agency wrote. "The passenger thought they had a sharp hiding spot. Our officers at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport quickly put an end to this dull idea."
The agency did not identify the passenger or say whether any citations or criminal charges were filed.
TSA officials are reminding travelers that knives and other sharp objects are not permitted in carry-on bags and should always be packed in checked luggage. Bringing prohibited items to a security checkpoint can result in delays, confiscation of the item, and, in some cases, civil penalties.
