Two Teens Killed in Fiery Crash in Lake County, FHP Investigating
LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Two teenagers from Mascotte were killed early Sunday morning after a vehicle lost control and crashed into trees before catching fire, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 12:48 a.m. on March 8, 2026, at the intersection of County Road 565 and Sloans Ridge Road in Lake County.
According to troopers, a 2018 Dodge Challenger was traveling southbound on County Road 565 approaching Sloans Ridge Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Investigators say the car veered off the roadway to the right and collided with multiple trees. Following the impact, the vehicle became engulfed in flames.
The driver, a 19-year-old man from Mascotte, and his 17-year-old passenger, also from Mascotte, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Florida Highway Patrol officials confirmed that next of kin have been notified. It remains unknown at this time whether the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.
