Arrest Made in Attempted Murder Case After Gun Malfunction in Kissimmee

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A man has been arrested in connection with an attempted murder investigation after a violent confrontation escalated in a Kissimmee parking lot earlier this month.

According to the Kissimmee Police Department, the incident occurred on March 12, 2026, in the parking lot of 2601 West Vine Street.

Officers responded to reports of a disturbance at approximately 1:57 p.m., where investigators say a dispute between two individuals turned physical. During the altercation, the victim reportedly displayed a knife.

Authorities say the suspect initially left the scene, but later returned armed with a firearm. Investigators allege the suspect pointed the gun at the victim and attempted to fire it twice, but both attempts failed due to a malfunction.

Detectives later identified the suspect as Melkin Vazquez Romero (DOB: July 31, 1995).

Romero was taken into custody and booked into the Osceola County Jail, where he is facing a charge of attempted first-degree premeditated murder. Officials say he is currently being held without bond.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
