The crash happened around 3:00 p.m. near Signal Butte Road and Baseline Road and was initially dispatched as a 2-in-1 medical call.
According to Mesa Fire and Medical, emergency crews responded to reports of a vehicle that had rolled onto its side, trapping a person inside.
When firefighters arrived, they worked alongside nearby bystanders to safely extricate the trapped occupant from the overturned vehicle.
A 61-year-old woman was transported to a local hospital with a leg injury. Her injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
Second Driver Leaves Crash Scene
While crews were handling the rollover, authorities learned that a second vehicle, described as a white Toyota Highlander, had reportedly left the crash scene traveling northbound on Signal Butte Road.
The driver eventually stopped near Signal Butte Road and U.S. 60, where he called 911 complaining of an asthma attack.
Mesa Police quickly responded to the location and made contact with the driver.
Mesa Fire and Medical also responded to evaluate him. After firefighters determined that he did not require further medical attention, officers conducted a field sobriety test.
