The Mesa Police Department recently received a generous donation of 304 teddy bears from the Alexander Cole Fernandez Foundation Inc.. The plush bears will be carried by officers and distributed to children during crisis situations — moments when fear, confusion, and stress can feel overwhelming.
From traffic collisions and domestic disturbances to medical emergencies, officers often encounter children on what may be the worst day of their young lives. A soft teddy bear may seem small, but it can instantly provide comfort, distraction, and a sense of safety when it’s needed most.
The Alexander Cole Fernandez Foundation was created to honor the life and legacy of Alexander Cole Fernandez, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. Rather than allowing loss to define them, the foundation has chosen to give back — turning grief into kindness and support for the community.
