E-Bike Rider Killed in Early-Morning Crash on Toucan Trail in Hernando County

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — A 67-year-old man riding an e-bike was killed Tuesday morning following a collision with a passenger vehicle on Toucan Trail, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash occurred around 5:50 a.m. on December 23, 2025. A Mazda 3 sedan, driven by a 63-year-old man from Spring Hill, was traveling westbound on Toucan Trail, east of Seaview Drive, when it struck the cyclist.

Investigators said the e-bike rider had fallen off his bicycle and was seated in the eastbound traffic lane at the time of the collision when the crash occurred.

The cyclist was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
