Single-Vehicle Crash Sends One Person to Hospital in Serious Condition Near Higley and Adobe

MESA, AZ — A single-vehicle crash sent one person to the hospital in serious condition after a car struck a tree early Tuesday near Higley Road and Adobe Road, according to Mesa Fire and Medical.

Emergency crews were dispatched after multiple 911 callers reported a vehicle had crashed into a tree on the east side of the roadway and that the occupant was possibly trapped. As a result, southbound Higley Road was temporarily shut down to allow first responders to safely work the scene.

The incident was upgraded to a 2-in-1 Medical, meaning the call involved both a traffic collision and a medical emergency, prompting a larger response that included Mesa Fire and MedicalMesa Police, and EMS units.

Officials say the crash involved a single vehicle that sustained moderate damage. One patient was inside the vehicle and reported to be in serious condition. With assistance from firefighters, the patient was able to self-extricate.

Fire crews also secured the vehicle after determining it was still running and posed a safety hazard. Lane restrictions remained in place while crews stabilized the scene and provided medical care.

The patient was transported by ambulance to Banner Desert Medical Center. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
