Davenport Man Dies Following Medical Emergency Crash Along US-27

POLK COUNTY, Fla.  A quiet stretch of US-27 in Polk County became the scene of a tragic crash Monday morning after a Davenport man suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. on December 29, 2025, just south of Bates Road, as the 64-year-old driver was traveling northbound in a Nissan Altima.

Investigators report the man suddenly experienced a medical issue, causing him to lose control of his vehicle. The car left the roadway, struck several shrubs, and continued into a nearby marsh, where it came to rest partially submerged.

First responders arrived quickly and transported the driver to a local hospital. Sadly, he later passed away despite medical efforts.

No other vehicles were involved, and there is no indication that speed or impairment played a role. The crash remains under investigation. The driver’s identity has not yet been released as officials work to notify family members.
