Buckeye Police Arrest Juveniles, Including 10-Year-Old, on Weapons Charges at City Park
BUCKEYE, Ariz. — Two juvenile males are facing weapons charges after Buckeye police say they were seen showing off a gun at a neighborhood park, then attempted to hide the firearm when officers arrived. One of the suspects is just 10 years old.
According to Buckeye police, the incident happened Tuesday evening around 5:45 p.m. at a park near Sundance Parkway and 219th Lane. Witnesses reported a group of males handling a handgun, prompting officers to respond immediately.
When officers arrived, they located two juveniles matching the descriptions. One of them — a 10-year-old boy — was found carrying a handgun with a distinctive appearance inside his backpack. That description matched the firearm witnesses saw at the park.
A second suspect, a 16-year-old male, was also identified as being involved in the incident.
Police say the 10-year-old was released to a guardian, and weapons misconduct charges will be submitted. The 16-year-old was booked into jail on similar weapons charges.
The investigation and arrests were handled by the new Buckeye Police Impact Team, a specialized unit funded through a grant focused on reducing gun violence and supporting Buckeye’s patrol and investigations divisions.
