Good evening — here’s what happened.

This afternoon, Apache Junction Police officers were called to Axiom Care, located at 105 N. Ocotillo Road, for a report of a subject in crisis. Officers spent time calmly talking with the individual, offering reassurance, patience, and support. Thanks to their compassionate approach, they were able to safely de-escalate the situation and connect the individual with the mental health care they needed. The person was transported to crisis services without any issues.

During their conversation, the individual mentioned something unexpected — there was dynamite inside their vehicle. Taking the information seriously, AJPD requested help from the Mesa Police Department Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, who immediately responded to assess the situation.

The Mesa EOD team searched the vehicle and successfully located the explosive materials. The dynamite was safely secured and removed without any danger to the public. Fortunately, no injuries occurred, and officials say there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The Apache Junction Police Department expressed their gratitude for the partnership and quick response from the Mesa PD EOD team.

A huge thank you to the Mesa Police Department, as well as Apache Junction Police and Apache Junction Fire & Medical, for working together to keep the community safe.
