Barricade Situation Ends With Arrest After Standoff on Downing Street in Mesa
MESA, AZ — New details have been released regarding a late-night barricade situation that unfolded Friday night in the 5100 block of East Downing Street in East Mesa.
According to the Mesa Police Department, officers initially responded to the residence for a domestic disturbance involving a suspect who was arguing with and becoming aggressive toward his brother.
When officers arrived on scene around 11:00 p.m., they attempted to get all occupants safely out of the home. Police say most individuals complied; however, the suspect refused to exit and barricaded himself inside the residence.
Officers surrounded the home and backyard, with at least a dozen units responding. Police used a loudspeaker and repeatedly issued commands for the suspect to exit the residence, but he continued to refuse. The department’s Air Unit and Drone Unit were also deployed to assist with surveillance during the standoff.
Eventually, Mesa Police officers entered the home and located the suspect hiding inside a closet, where he was taken into custody without further incident.
Police identified the suspect as Tyson Weston, 39. He was booked into jail on misdemeanor domestic violence charges, along with three outstanding warrants.
During the investigation, officers also discovered that a woman at the residence had an outstanding warrant, and she was taken into custody as well.
After the scene was secured and the suspect was arrested, Mesa Fire and Medical Engine 220 was dispatched to evaluate him as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
This incident remains under investigation.
