MESA, AZ — Mesa Fire & Medical crews were dispatched at approximately 11:35 a.m. Monday to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of University Drive and Val Vista Drive in Mesa.
According to 911 calls, one of the vehicles had flipped onto its roof with at least one person trapped inside. Mesa Police also responded to assist with traffic control and scene safety.
Upon arrival, Mesa Fire & Medical confirmed two vehicles were involved and reported multiple injuries. Crews quickly established a triage area at the Starbucks located on the corner to assess and treat patients. Gilbert Fire & Rescue responded to assist.
In total, there were three patients. One patient — an 81-year-old male with a head injury and active bleeding — was treated as a trauma patient and transported to a local hospital. Mesa Fire & Medical crews secured all vehicle hazards while Mesa Police remained on scene for traffic management and to await tow trucks.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Traffic in the area was impacted for an extended period while emergency crews cleared the scene.
