MESA, Ariz. – A 22-year-old man is facing multiple felony charges after Mesa Police say he pointed a handgun during a road rage encounter Sunday evening.

According to Detective Macias, the incident happened on September 21, 2025, just before 8:00 p.m. Officers were called to the area of Stapley Road and U.S. 60 after receiving reports that a driver had brandished a firearm.

Investigators say the victim was exiting U.S. 60 at Stapley Road when a white BMW cut him off. At a nearby stoplight, the two drivers exchanged words before the suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun equipped with a green laser and aimed it at the victim before speeding away.

With help from the department’s Real Time Crime Center cameras, officers obtained video footage of the BMW, including its license plate and direction of travel. A short time later, the vehicle was spotted re-entering U.S. 60 at Gilbert Road.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and detained the driver, identified as 22-year-old Brian Lopez, along with three passengers. Inside the vehicle, officers recovered a handgun with a green laser matching the victim’s description.

Further investigation revealed Lopez is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms.
