🌌 May the 4th Be With You: Florida Celebrates Star Wars Day With Sunshine, Stormtroopers, and a Few Good Puns

ORLANDO, FL — Every year on May 4th, something a little different happens across Florida.
People start greeting each other with, “May the 4th be with you.”
Strangers bond over lightsabers.
And suddenly, everyone becomes at least a part-time Jedi.
What started as a simple pun on the famous Star Wars™ line — “May the Force be with you” — has turned into a worldwide celebration. The phrase itself dates back decades, even popping up in a 1979 newspaper headline celebrating Margaret Thatcher. But thanks to fans (and the internet doing what it does best), May 4th is now officially Star Wars Day.
And here in Florida… it’s a whole vibe.

At Disney's Hollywood Studios, home to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, the galaxy feels a lot closer than “far, far away.” Visitors can pilot the Millennium Falcon™, build custom lightsabers, and casually run into stormtroopers who still somehow can’t aim.
Yes… even in Florida.
Fans show up early, many dressed head-to-toe as Jedi, Sith, bounty hunters — or that one friend who insists they’re “just here for the snacks.”
“It’s like Comic-Con,” one guest said, “but with humidity… and fewer working lightsabers.”
And that’s where Florida puts its own spin on things.
Because celebrating Star Wars Day here means:
- Lightsabers in 90-degree heat
- Darth Vader helmets fogging up instantly
- And at least one afternoon thunderstorm trying to join the Dark Side
Even if you’re not heading to the parks, plenty of Floridians celebrate from home — with movie marathons, themed snacks, and, of course, a few classic jokes that somehow never get old.
Like these:
👉 What do you call Chewbacca when he has chocolate in his hair?
A chocolate chip Wookiee!
👉 Why did Yoda bring a ladder?
Because the Force was strong with the high ground!
👉 What do you call a droid that takes the long way around?
R2-Detour!
👉 Why did Luke Skywalker open a bakery?
Because he kneaded the dough!
👉 What’s a Jedi’s favorite toy?
A yo-yo-da!
👉 What do you call a pirate droid?
Arrrr-2-D2!
👉 Why is Yoda such a good teacher?
Because he has lots of “patience,” he does!
👉 What do you call a sleeping Jedi?
A nap-walker!
👉 Why did the Jedi go to school?
To improve his Force-cast skills!
👉 What do you call a Jedi who loves candy?
Obi-Wan Cannoli!
👉 And of course…
“I find your lack of tacos disturbing.” 🌮
(Okay, that one might just be Florida-specific.)
More than 40 years after its debut, Star Wars™ continues to bring people together — whether you’re a lifelong fan or just someone who knows enough to say “Baby Yoda” and hope for the best.
Because at the end of the day, May the 4th isn’t just about the movies.
It’s about having fun, sharing a laugh, and maybe texting your friends a terrible pun they didn’t ask for.
So whether you’re walking through Galaxy’s Edge, rewatching your favorite scenes at home, or just trying to survive the Florida heat in a Jedi robe…
May the 4th be with you. Always.
