One Dead, Several Injured in Crash at US-301 and CR-462 Intersection

SUMTER COUNTY, FL — A serious crash at a Sumter County intersection left one person dead and several others injured after a vehicle failed to stop and entered the path of another, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the crash occurred around 9:07 p.m. on April 5, 2026, at the intersection of CR-462 and US-301.

Investigators report that a Kia Sportage traveling eastbound on CR-462 failed to stop at the intersection and entered the path of a southbound Acura MDX on US-301, resulting in a violent collision.

Following the impact, the Kia overturned multiple times before coming to rest on the grass shoulder, while the Acura rotated and stopped in the travel lanes of US-301.

Authorities confirmed that a 46-year-old woman from Ocala who was inside the Kia suffered fatal injuries at the scene. A 36-year-old man from Anthony, also in the Kia, was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say both occupants of the Kia were not wearing seatbelts, and investigators are still working to determine which of the two was driving at the time of the crash.

The Acura was driven by a 17-year-old male from Middleton, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A 17-year-old passenger from Wildwood was also injured but is expected to recover.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
