HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A hit-and-run crash along US-92 claimed the life of a bicyclist late last month, and Florida Highway Patrol troopers have now arrested the suspected driver, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP says the crash occurred around 10:37 p.m. on December 20, 2025, along US-92 east of Mobile Villa Drive. Investigators determined that a vehicle, operated by an unknown driver, was traveling westbound on US-92 when it veered onto the shoulder and struck a bicyclist who was also traveling westbound.
Following the collision, the driver fled the scene. The suspect vehicle was initially described as a silver or dark-colored mid-sized SUV.
The bicyclist, identified as a 38-year-old man from Nicaragua, suffered fatal injuries at the scene and was pronounced deceased.
After an extensive investigation, FHP troopers located and arrested the hit-and-run driver at a residence in the 100 block of West Ohio Avenue in Tampa. Authorities say the suspect vehicle, a 2001 Honda Passport, was recovered.
The driver was identified as Lijah Ibin Muhammad-Roomes, 34, who will be charged with Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Crash.
FHP thanked the public for tips that helped advance the investigation. Anyone with additional information related to this case is urged to contact *FHP (*347) or **Crime Stoppers at TIPS.
