Teen Hospitalized After Shooting at Mesa Apartment Complex; Suspect Still At Large
MESA, AZ — A 16-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Sunday afternoon after being shot at least once in the parking lot of a Mesa apartment complex, according to Mesa Police Detective Dreyer.
The incident occurred just after 3:00 p.m. at 1608 E. Main Street, when the teen himself called 911 reporting he had been shot. As officers were responding, additional callers reported the shooting and provided varying details, though the most credible information indicated the suspect had already fled the area.
When officers arrived, they found the victim wounded but conscious and alert. He told police he did not know the person who shot him. Mesa Fire and Medical transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Detectives who responded to the scene later determined the shooting happened in the parking lot on the south side of the complex. At this time, police do not have a confirmed suspect description, and no arrests have been made. The suspect remains at large as the investigation continues.
Mesa Police ask anyone with information or video from the area around the time of the shooting to come forward. You can reach them at (480) 644-2211.
