Sex Offender Arrested After Harassing 12-Year-Old at Buckeye Bus Stop
Buckeye, AZ — According to Buckeye Police Department, a convicted sex offender is back behind bars after police say he followed and harassed a 12-year-old girl walking to her school bus stop near downtown Buckeye.
The incident unfolded on Friday, November 21, when a mother called Buckeye Police reporting that a man had approached and harassed her daughter near Baseline Road and Pima Road as she headed to the bus stop. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had already left the area.
According to police, employees at a nearby daycare witnessed the interaction and quickly stepped in to protect the child. Staff members brought the girl inside the facility, where she safely waited for her bus. Officers then gathered details from witnesses and began searching the area.
Based on descriptions and information collected at the scene, police identified the suspect as 48-year-old Adrian Villareal, who had an active warrant for failing to register as a sex offender.
An officer patrolling the surrounding neighborhood soon spotted Villareal less than half a mile away. When approached, Villareal ran into the backyard of a home near 7th Avenue and Deniza. After a brief standoff, he was taken into custody without further incident.
Villareal was booked into jail on his outstanding warrant and now faces additional charges, including harassment and criminal trespassing.
Buckeye Police say the quick arrest was made possible thanks to alert community members who acted to protect the child and reported the suspicious behavior immediately.
“Thanks to a community that is vigilant and protective of our children, this suspect was quickly captured and prevented from causing further harm,” the department said. “We encourage everyone to stay aware of your surroundings and contact police right away if you see something suspicious.”
