Young Alabama Man Killed, Passenger Seriously Injured in Florida Turnpike Crash
Lake County, FL (iSkyNews.com) — A 22-year-old man from Mobile, Alabama was killed late Thursday night after his vehicle slammed into the back of a semi-truck on Florida’s Turnpike just south of Hancock Road (Mile Marker 279), according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash occurred at approximately 10:16 PM on July 24, 2025, in Lake County.
Troopers say the man was driving a 2025 Hyundai Elantra southbound on the Turnpike when he failed to slow for traffic ahead, resulting in a rear-end collision with a 2017 Freightliner semi-truck that was also heading south and reducing speed.
The Hyundai's driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His 23-year-old female passenger, also from Mobile, AL, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment.
According to FHP, neither occupant in the Hyundai was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The 45-year-old driver of the semi-truck, a man from Naples, Florida, was not injured and remained on scene to cooperate with investigators.
As of Friday morning, next of kin had not yet been notified for the deceased. The crash remains under investigation.
