Orange County Sheriff's Office Honors Deputy Michael Callin 20 Years After His Line-of-Duty Death

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff's Office is remembering the life and sacrifice of Deputy First Class Michael Callin, marking 20 years since the young deputy was killed in the line of duty.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Deputy Callin was working a traffic enforcement detail on August 1, 2006, near the Kirkman Road entrance to Interstate 4, when he attempted to stop a speeding vehicle while standing beneath an overpass.
Investigators said the driver accelerated, intentionally aimed the vehicle at Deputy Callin, and struck him.
Deputy Callin died from his injuries the following day, August 2, 2006. He was just 26 years old.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office described the deputy as being at the beginning of what promised to be a distinguished law enforcement career.
"Just 26 years old, Deputy Callin was murdered at the dawn of his promising career," the Sheriff's Office said in a social media tribute. "We will never forget his service or his sacrifice."
To honor his memory, Deputy Callin's motorcycle remains on display in the lobby of the Orange County Sheriff's Office as a lasting tribute to his dedication, heroism, and ultimate sacrifice.
Twenty years later, the Sheriff's Office says Deputy Callin's legacy continues to live on through those who serve and the community he gave his life to protect.
