Tampa, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is actively investigating a frightening highway shooting that occurred early Sunday morning, May 11th, on Interstate 4 near the US-301 exit.

According to FHP, the incident began around 6:30 AM when the occupants of a Ford Edge reported that a dark-colored sedan pulled up alongside their vehicle and opened fire. Shortly after, the same suspect vehicle maneuvered behind a Chevy Tahoe, exited onto US-301, and fired multiple rounds at that vehicle as well.

In an effort to flee the gunfire, the Tahoe sped down US-301 but ultimately crashed into a utility pole near Franklin Road. The occupants, fearing for their lives, fled the wrecked SUV on foot. According to authorities, two masked gunmen from the suspect sedan also exited their vehicle and gave chase on foot.

Thankfully, the individuals inside the Tahoe were able to successfully escape the armed assailants and suffered only minor injuries from the crash. No gunshot wounds were reported in connection with either vehicle.

Investigators recovered .40 caliber shell casings and confirmed that both the Ford Edge and the Chevy Tahoe had been struck by bullets. As of now, no suspects have been identified, and the motive remains unknown.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact the Florida Highway Patrol by dialing FHP (347) or reaching out to Crime Stoppers at **TIPS.
