Convertible Corvette Rollover on U.S. 60 in Mesa Sends Two to Hospital

MESA, Ariz. — A single-vehicle rollover crash involving a convertible Corvette on westbound U.S. 60 near the Stapley Drive exit sent two people to the hospital Saturday night and briefly blocked all lanes of traffic.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. near Exit 181.

According to information from the scene, the convertible Corvette struck a wall and rolled onto its side.

The crash initially blocked all westbound lanes, including the HOV lane, causing traffic to back up through the area.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety was later able to move the damaged Corvette over to the right side of the freeway near the exit, allowing traffic to begin moving again with only minor delays.

Mesa Fire and Medical and AZDPS responded to the scene.

A second ambulance was requested during the response, and two patients were transported to the hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.

A tow truck arrived at approximately 9:30 p.m. to remove the heavily damaged Corvette and help clear the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Drivers traveling westbound on U.S. 60 near Stapley Drive were advised to use caution while emergency crews worked in the area.
