DAVENPORT, Fla. — A Davenport woman already behind bars on unrelated charges is now facing multiple animal cruelty and neglect charges after authorities say five severely neglected dogs and the decomposing remains of another dog were discovered at her home.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office33-year-old Caroline Kanyamauri was originally arrested by the Davenport Police Department on June 24, 2026, during a traffic stop on five misdemeanor traffic-related charges.

While being taken into custody, Kanyamauri reportedly asked officers if she could contact her sister to check on her dogs because she knew she would be going to jail.

The following day, Kanyamauri's sister went to the residence and was alarmed by what she found. She immediately contacted law enforcement to report the animals' condition.

Disturbing Discovery

When deputies and animal cruelty investigators arrived, they discovered heartbreaking conditions.

In the backyard, investigators found a black wire kennel containing the decomposing remains of a deceased dog.

On a nearby screened porch, four young puppies were found confined in an area covered in feces. Inside the home, deputies located an adult male dog that appeared severely underweight, with its ribs and bone structure clearly visible.

According to investigators, all five surviving dogs appeared malnourished and infested with parasites.

The rescued animals were turned over to Polk County Animal Control, where they are undergoing comprehensive medical examinations and receiving treatment.

Sheriff Grady Judd praised the family member who alerted authorities before the surviving animals suffered an even worse fate.

"We are grateful to this suspect's family member for contacting law enforcement when she encountered what were clearly severely neglected and malnourished pets, in time for us to rescue these puppies and dog and return them to health," Judd said. "It is our hope that they go to loving homes as soon as they are rehabilitated, and that Ms. Kanyamauri is not allowed to own animals again."
