Unrestrained Driver Ejected, Killed in Early Morning Crash on SR-400
FLORIDA — A deadly crash early Monday morning on SR-400 left one man dead after he was ejected from his vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say the crash occurred around 2:25 a.m. on April 6, 2026, near Milepost 1, as a Dodge Durango was traveling westbound.
For reasons still under investigation, the driver — identified as a 28-year-old man from Tampa — lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer into the median and overturn multiple times.
During the crash, the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.
He was transported to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
A passenger in the vehicle, a 26-year-old Tampa woman who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
Troopers often remind drivers that wearing a seatbelt can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or death, especially in rollover crashes.
