From Celebration to Chaos: New Year’s Eve Stabbing Leaves Four Injured In Mesa

Mesa, AZ  A New Year’s Eve celebration turned violent just before midnight when a large fight broke out at an apartment complex near Gilbert Road and Broadway Road, according to the Mesa Police Department.

Police say officers were called to the scene around 11:41 p.m. on December 31, 2025, after multiple reports of a disturbance involving several people. When officers arrived, they found four adults injured with cut and stab wounds. Three of the victims suffered deep cuts believed to be caused by a sharp object, while another person was treated for a puncture wound to the chest.

All four victims were taken for medical care, and police say their injuries are not life-threatening.

Investigators believe the incident started among residents from multiple apartments within the complex. According to police, alcohol had been involved, and what began as a verbal argument quickly escalated into a physical fight. As the chaos grew, more residents came out of nearby apartments and joined in.

With more than a dozen people involved — and language barriers complicating communication — officers temporarily detained over ten individuals while trying to piece together what happened. Detectives interviewed victims, witnesses, and others connected to the incident, but police say the stories varied and no clear primary aggressor could be identified.

No arrests have been made at this time, and everyone who was detained was later released. Police stress that this appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing danger to the public.
