Driver Seriously Hurt in Violent Rollover During Friday Morning Crash in Mesa

Mesa, AZ — Today around 10:00 a.m., Mesa Fire and Medical crews, along with Mesa Police, responded to what officials described as a “2-in-1 medical.”
2-in-1 medical is a type of emergency call where both police and fire/medical units are dispatched simultaneously because the situation involves both a medical emergency and a vehicle crash, requiring rapid multi-agency response.

The incident occurred near McKellips Road and 64th Street, involving a black Chevy Suburban (AZ Plate: 21A 9WY). The vehicle had rolled onto its side and became wedged between a light pole and a tree, leaving significant damage at the scene.

Mesa Fire & Medical transported the patient to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The ambulance departed Code 3, meaning it left the scene with lights and sirens activated to indicate a life-threatening emergency.

Mesa Police shut down westbound McKellips Road at 64th Street, diverting all traffic northbound while they managed the scene. Debris from the crash—including pieces of a broken light pole fixture—was scattered across the roadway.

Blue hazard tape could be seen wrapped around and across the overturned Suburban as police secured the area and awaited the arrival of a tow truck to remove the vehicle.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
