UPDATE: May 12th, 2026 - Yesterday, the Tempe Police Department announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with the theft of a high-value bottle of cognac from a Tempe restaurant.
Prior to the release of that information, Channel Miller and her husband, Matthew Steve, voluntarily turned themselves in.
After investigators reviewed newly received exculpatory evidence this afternoon, detectives confirmed that Miller is not the woman suspected in the theft.
While probable cause existed at the time of her arrest based on the information available to investigators, the new evidence led detectives to determine she was not involved.
Matthew Steve has been processed on a felony theft charge, and both individuals have since been released from custody after their initial appearance.
The investigation remains ongoing.

Appetizers and a $4,000 Side: Tempe Couple Arrested in Rare Cognac Heist
TEMPE, AZ — Most people visit Three Thirty-Three Restaurant for a high-end dining experience, but police say one local couple was looking for a very specific—and very expensive—souvenir.
Channel Miller, 34, and her husband, Matthew Steve, 32, are in custody today after allegedly orchestrating the theft of a rare bottle of Louis XIII Cognac valued at roughly $4,000.

The "Dine and Dash" Twist
The incident unfolded on the evening of Monday, May 4. According to investigators, the couple sat down for dinner just after 9 p.m. and ordered appetizers. However, the meal took a criminal turn when detectives say the pair began acting suspiciously.
While Steve allegedly acted as a lookout, Miller is accused of swiping the 750 ml bottle of ultra-premium cognac. The high-stakes heist didn't stay secret for long; the restaurant’s surveillance system captured the entire act, as well as clear footage of the SUV the couple used to flee the scene.
A Larger Network?
Tempe detectives didn't just stop at the theft. Investigators believe Miller and Steve may have ties to the Romanian Travelers, a criminal group known nationally for targeting businesses through organized theft and sophisticated fraud schemes.
After a week-long investigation, the pressure apparently reached a breaking point. On May 12, the husband and wife turned themselves in to the Tempe Police Department.
The couple now faces serious legal heat for their expensive taste:
🌟 Charges: Both have been charged with Felony Theft, classified as a Class 4 felony in Arizona.
🌟 Potential Penalties: A Class 4 felony can carry significant prison time, especially if investigators can prove a link to organized retail crime.
How You Can Help
The investigation remains active as detectives look into whether the pair is linked to other similar thefts in the Valley.
🌟 Contact: Anyone with information is urged to call the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311.
