ROAD RAGE TURNS DANGEROUS — DAVENPORT DRIVER ARRESTED AFTER POINTING WEAPON

DAVENPORT, Fla. — A road rage incident near Davenport late Tuesday night escalated into a frightening encounter when a driver allegedly pointed a weapon at another vehicle, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 11:14 p.m. on April 14, 2026, to the intersection of U.S. 17-92 and Ernie Caldwell Boulevard following reports of an aggressive driver.

According to investigators, the victims told deputies the suspect driver began cursing at them and flashing his headlights, before cutting off their vehicle in traffic. The situation quickly intensified when the driver allegedly pointed what appeared to be a firearm at them while threatening to shoot.

A deputy later located the suspect vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as 40-year-old Mark Cardona of Davenport.

Authorities say Cardona admitted to pointing a weapon at the victims, but claimed it was a pepper ball gun. Deputies noted the weapon closely resembled a real firearm, creating a serious and credible threat during the incident.

Cardona was arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center, where he faces two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon without Intent to Kill, both third-degree felonies.

No injuries were reported, but officials warn that road rage incidents can quickly turn violent and life-threatening.

The investigation remains ongoing.
