Multi-Agency Operation Targets Violent “Family Mob” Gang in Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Federal and local law enforcement agencies announced the dismantling and disruption of a violent street gang and drug trafficking organization known as “Family Mob” following a large-scale operation conducted on February 25, 2026.
According to the FBI Minneapolis, the coordinated effort involved crucial partnerships between federal investigators and regional law enforcement agencies across the Minneapolis metropolitan area. Authorities said the operation focused on members and associates of the Family Mob gang, which has allegedly operated in the region since the 1990s.
Officials stated that prior to dawn, eight SWAT teams were deployed across the area to execute 14 search warrants aimed at seizing narcotics, firearms, and other evidence tied to the group’s alleged criminal activities. By the end of the day, investigators expected to have 12 defendants in custody, many of whom reportedly have violent criminal histories.
Law enforcement officials said the investigation, which has spanned more than a year, resulted in significant seizures tied to the organization’s alleged drug trafficking network. Authorities reported confiscating 14 firearms, approximately 6.5 kilograms of fentanyl, 2 kilograms of cocaine, nearly 800 grams of methamphetamine, close to 200 grams of crack cocaine, five vehicles, and nearly $100,000 in cash.
Officials emphasized that the operation was designed not only to disrupt narcotics distribution but also to address violence linked to territorial disputes and gang activity in local neighborhoods. Investigators allege the group conspired for decades to distribute illegal drugs while using violence to maintain control over their claimed territory.
In a statement, Special Agent in Charge Rick Evanchec highlighted the importance of interagency collaboration, noting that partnerships among federal, state, and local agencies were critical to the success of the operation. He added that authorities intend to continue targeting organizations that attempt to replace the dismantled network.
Law enforcement leaders said the crackdown sends a clear message that violent gang activity and the spread of deadly narcotics will not be tolerated in the Minneapolis area. The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors review charges against the suspects taken into custody.
